Lauren Conrad Glowing Skin
neomedievalism, Romanesque and Gothic. (early nineteenth century, contemporary romanticism)
By Emilio Tomasini, Prof . UNLu History.
Similar to earlier in the revival of the past. Increased interest in the Gothic to represent the religious spirit. European and neo-Gothic
River Plate: The Gothic deserved rejection from the Renaissance to the time. In Latin America are the cathedrals of Mexico and Cuzco (classical and Gothic at a time). But the Andes (Peru and Bolivia) was a late Gothic reservoir during the colonial period (S. XVI and XVII) because they believed earthquake. Hypothesis was refuted after an earthquake that destroyed Lima in S. XVIII.
In Europe, these trends emerge after 1830 as a response of romance, rebellious and unruly. It idealizes the Middle Ages. Romanticism, which created the concept of architectural heritage, gave a more free and creative touch to classical logic. It was a "revival" that is not a mere continuation. Sought give new life to the styles mentioned. Reached its peak in the late Victorian era.
The Rio de la Plata: Linked to the introduction of new cults, the first churches of this style were Protestants. But the most famous works are the Cathedral of La Plata and Lujan Cathedral.
Finally, as already stated, there is a Gothic style itself, as there are free perimeter, buildings are of stone, steel and bricks but revoked.
♦ Example: The Parliament of London (1836_ 1868) "A classic Gothic Dress"
The neoclassical and neo medieval living here. The original parliament caught fire. Consistent with the medieval English parliament, was used to Gothic. The work was built on land reclaimed from the River of 3.2 hectares. Has 11 yards, 100 steps, 1100 spaces used as offices, rooms, etc. 3 km. corridors, facade 266m long, 3 floors. The building expresses serenity by the repetition of similar elements. It has turrets topped polygonal towers at the corners. In addition to the Clock Tower or Big Ben. Inside, is a richly decorated with Gothic elements, many of them made of iron. The building should be fireproof. Presents nostalgia for times past, but has the spirit of art in terms of construction, interior decoration products and technology outside the industrial revolution.

arises in the eighteenth century a critique of the Baroque and Rococo. It occurs in the following historical context: Independence of the American colonies, French Revolution and industrial (urban population growth, rise of the bourgeoisie in power, technical development, etc..) Bourbon Reforms in Latin America. Fundamental concepts: 1. search for rational foundations. 2. Strong roots and livelihoods were the classics (Greece and Rome) and the Renaissance. 3. sound recovery of the above. 4. According to the building or the government, sought more consistent classical source of inspiration (Napoleon and the Roman Republic for example). 5. Volumetric display. 6. Use of iron through the industrial revolution. 7. Internationalism. Insertion
urban and volume, were made in cities and in Europe. In America, the emergence of new nations allowed the planning of cities as the seat of government (Washington, La Plata, Belo Horizonte for example). There superimposed diagonal rectangular blocks.
The volume was well known, simple, reduced to a body. The tradition weighs more than innovation. Architects

revolutionaries. Louis Boullé (1728_ 1799) led to the extreme rationality, simplicity, and expressive nudity.
examples of neoclassical architecture: Cathedral of Buenos Aires, La Casa de la Moneda in Chile, La Casa Rosada, the Argentine Congress, the Colon Theatre.
The neoclassical Latin America: the English brought it. Clearly predominant in the period.
♦ Example: The Pantheon (1755_ 1789) Rigorous assessment of the past. Critical the deviations of the rococo. Paradigms: archeology, reason, and efficiency. Originally a church, converted by the French Revolution in a mausoleum for famous men (use existing towers demolished), then regained his ecclesiastical function. Efficiency and resource calculation, support engineers. Calculation of strength of materials. The columns had been restored to two functions: to support the building and beauty. The vaults are not simulated structural shells are real stone. Thanks to scientific rigor changed the thickness of the walls and the proportions of full and empty. Apparent fragility of the building was bewilderment. Be reconciled the slenderness of Gothic churches with the purity and magnificence of the classics. The building has three parts isolable: The entrance portico, rival the Pantheon of Agrippa in Rome. Then the body of the church, with a staff of four ships in a Greek cross in front of the hidden temple. The third part: the dome. Highly developed drum surrounded by columns with a flashlight. Some openings were closed, this was an increase in moisture, cooling of the stones and metal corrosion.
